Did you ever feel that no one shared their great ideas with you?
or
That no one listened to your ideas and gave you important feedback?
If you are like me and most people in the world, you have had those feelings before.
And that’s why you need to be involved with a Mastermind.
A Mastermind is simply a group of 2 or more people who openly share their knowledge to achieve a common goal of success.
Serving as an Independent Distributor Council (IDC) Member
I just got back from an amazing 5 days in Salt Lake City, Utah. This past year I was elected to serve as a member of the prestigious IDC (Independent Distributor Council) for USANA, my network marketing company.
I was honored and grateful to be 1 of the 8 distributorships elected out of 60,000 in the United States.
We were wined and dined by USANA, but more importantly, we shared our ideas and feedback with the executives at the company. Each day we found ourselves in a conference room for 9 straight hours in intense brainstorming and feedback sessions.
It was exciting to be able to share ideas and hear the ideas of other top distributors in my company.
The most helpful part was that each of the Council members came from different demographics, used different strategies to build their MLM businesses, but all were successful.
Most of us were Million Dollar Club members. We had successful leaders that had been with the company for over 15 years share their perspectives, as well as “rookies” that have been around for only 5 years.
Though we were very different, one common trait was consistency. We all built out successful network marketing businesses with the SAME company and were patient with our journey to success.
One of the BEST parts of serving in the IDC is that it is a Mastermind. We got to openly share our ideas and thoughts.
Not only did our MLM company benefit from our feedback, but also, each of the IDC members learned from the experience of the other members. It was a great learning experience for everyone.
Importance of Being in a Mastermind
Regardless of what business or career you are in, it’s important to be part of a Mastermind where you can openly share your ideas to get better.
The Mastermind is so important that it is one of the 13 steps to riches in Napoleon Hill’s classic book, “Think and Grow Rich.”
Napoleon Hill describes in Chapter 10, The Power of the Master Mind; the 9th Step to Riches,
“A group of brains coordinated (or connected) in a spirit of harmony will provide more thought energy than a single brain…”
I attribute a big part of my success and how I built a global network marketing business to the ideas that I picked up from my Mastermind. Great things can happen when different minds with similar goals come together.
How to Get Into a Mastermind
So if you are not in a Mastermind, make sure you get into one.
Simply go find people with ambitions similar to yours, and meet regularly to share your ideas. Networking functions or business seminars are a great place to find motivated individuals. All you have to do is build a relationship, and then take action to set up a regular meeting or phone call.
For those of you in the network marketing industry, I have created 2 Mastermind Groups where you learn and exchange ideas with other successful and motivated leaders.
Both my 5 Star Mastermind and Advanced Diamond Mastermind are part of my coaching programs and have limited availability. (The Mastermind becomes useless when the group becomes too big.)

How to Maximize the Mastermind Experience
Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your Mastermind:
Open Sharing
Each member must be comfortable to openly share and trust each other with their ideas. You may have to incorporate some level of confidentiality so that what is shared does not appear on Twitter or Feedback and the whole world knows about it. Remember, what is important is NOT what people are actually doing, but for you to learn and get ideas on how you can apply what you learn.
Fresh Ideas
Members should be someone that you do NOT normally talk to, otherwise the ideas are not fresh. The purpose of the Mastermind is to get new perspectives.
Be Humble and Open to Criticism
Realize that it is a good thing that your ideas may be shot down. The last thing you want is “yes” men/women that will say all your ideas are great. The value of the Mastermind is because your “great” ideas will be challenged, and the group will make you look at things from a different angle.
Diverse Perspectives
You multiply your results when you have members from different industries. For example, a network marketer can be part of a Mastermind with traditional retail businessmen, doctors, lawyers, import/export trader, etc. The opinions and perspectives from people in different professions can reveal ideas that you may never think of if you only talk to the people in your industry.
A big part of my success in network marketing is because I had mentors and also constantly communicated with business people who are outside the MLM industry.
Create Your Mastermind Today
Don’t worry about the size of your Mastermind. It can be as small as 1 other person. The importance is to find someone today with whom you have mutual trust and set up a time to share on a consistent basis.
I guarantee you that with the power of a Mastermind, you will find yourself grow to new heights in the next 12 months.
Let me know how it goes!
Sincerely,
Simon Chan
